Friends Forever

My best friend and her family have been stationed in Hawaii now for 2 years.  They finally came home to visit these past few weeks.  I took some pictures of her children and mine while they were here.  I miss them already and can't wait to go visit them :)

Before baby C makes his way into the world

These will be the last family pictures taken of just the three of them.  In 9 weeks baby C will make his way into the world and their lives will be changed forever.  It's ok though..it's a good change! :)  Big sister is ready for her baby brother to get here!  You can really see the love she has for him even though she's never "seen" him :)

It's getting to be that time for Senior Portraits :)

What to Wear

Bring a variety of color, don't bring all blue outfits even if it is your favorite color. Avoid clothing that has wording on it (except for your own school logo). Change up the style, all one look (like tanks) gets boring. Vary the dress level. Bring some dressy, some medium, and some casual. Plan all your outfits completely because we will take photos that are close-up, full length, and in between. Also remember, it is best to do one or two outfits that mom will like, then we can do the stuff you like.

Traditional Portraits
Proper clothing allows your face to dominate the portrait, with everything else being secondary. When photographed against a medium or dark background, colors that photograph best for your close-up poses are medium to dark tones of green, brown, rust, wine, or blue. Also, darker shades are more slimming. Avoid colors that approximate your flesh tones. (These might be whites, beige, tan, or very pale peach, pink, and gray). Against dark backgrounds these colors will become the focus of your portrait and against light backgrounds they drain the color from your face (making you appear pale and washed-out).

Gals
Wear solid colors, no large distracting patterns. Avoid short sleeve tops. If you feel you have heavy arms, avoid "spaghetti" straps as they tend to make arms look heavier and draw the attention away from the face.

Wear a neckline that is flattering. Round faces and square jaw lines look best in a v-neck as opposed a round, crew neck. Thin faces and pointy chins look best in a round neckline. Only those with a relatively long neck look good in a turtleneck.

Guys
A dress suit with a tie has been the standard for years and we still recommend it. If you decide not to, an alternative would be a dress shirt and a sweater that is a solid color or has a slight pattern. If you want to wear only a dress shirt and tie, wear a colored shirt. White shirts look best under a jacket.

Casual and Stylish Portraits
Casual portraits give you much more variety in clothing, color and style. We can also be much more creative with our digital imaging.

Gals
You can choose your favorite sports outfit, dress, prom dress, shorts or jeans outfit. Pick the colors you really like.

Guys
You can choose your jeans, casual or sports wear, letterman jacket. You may want to bring your sports uniform and equipment.

Outdoor Portraits
Bring a outfit that blends with the outdoors be it the park or the beach. If you are the outdoors sports kind of person, let's create something special with your gear.

Wear blue jeans or khaki pants unless you want a dressier look (girls, wear longer, flowing dresses.)You may want to avoid very short skirts as they will restrict your movement and poses. Certain colors look best for different seasons outdoors.

Spring and summer - sky blue, khaki, pale green, pink, watermelon, dark peach.

Clothing tips :)

Do the clothes make the person? Hard to say… but they often make the portrait. When planning for a portrait session stick to these 10 tips when deciding what to wear and you’ll be on your way to awesome portraits.

1.Be comfortable: Good pictures will require a certain comfort level from you, the subject. If you are scared of losing your balance in high heels or sweating under that polyester shirt then good pictures are going to be harder to come by. Stick to clothes you like, that build your confidence and are functional and comfortable.

2.Clothes are a statement: Outfit changes are the norm in a portrait shoot so mix it up with some clothing options that will make for more fun, sassy portraits. Bring along other outift options that are more formal to ensure a more broad choice of pictures showcasing the various parts of your personalities.

3.Keep it simple: Dark, plain fabrics usually work best. Avoid crazy patterns, designs and logos too. Clothing with distinct lines, dots and bright patterns can be distracting in a photo. Same goes for shiny fabrics. Keep your jewelry choices simple and minimal.

4.Avoid short sleeves and shorts: Long sleeves and pants are the superior choice. Skin tones can vary a bunch on various legs and arms not to mention the lighter complexion will distract the eye when viewing the pictures.

5.Not too many choices and changes: You should feel welcome to have a few clothing changes but don’t overwhelm yourself and your photographer with choices. It takes a little time for your photographer to get the creative ball rolling. Stopping for an outfit change halts and can disrupt that process.

6.Ask before wearing whites: Yes, dark solid print clothes are generally better, but rules are made to be broken. Talk with your photographer before the shoot if you are considering a white shirt. It can look awesome in certain kinds of backgrounds and contexts so let your photographer know and they will be better prepared to make excellent photos.

7.Props (nothing hokey here): Does your lovebird indulge you with an old-fashioned picnic once in a while? How about a tune on the guitar? Bring along a few items that reveal a unique aspect of your relationship. Talk it over before the session with your photographer.

8.Suitability to locations, or not: If you are hiking about on nature trails to get to your locations, you will want to consider clothing that is practical and appropriate for that surrounding. Or, for a little extra contrast, maybe really dress it up with a suit and tie and wonderful dress to strike a visual contrast with the rustic surroundings. Again, talk with your photographer beforehand about such ideas and get their input. A little planning always helps.

9.Classic, timeless styles: Great pictures last a long, long time so be sure your clothing choices will age gracefully. What is the fashionable trend today can easily be tomorrow’s parachute pants. So stow away the Ed Hardy shirts.

10.Hats, scarves and accessories for extra cute children’s portraits: Oversized ball caps, a football jersey from Mom and Dad’s alma mater always work well.
